Based on an incredible true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup,
a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into
slavery. Facing cruelty personified by a malevolent slave owner, as well
as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but
to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable
odyssey, Solomon's chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist will
forever alter his life.
The CAST is just awesome. Brad Pitt as a slaves dealer, Michael Fassbender as the master, who is so sarcastic and brutal in his way of treating people, that you cannot understand in today 21 century, that such a kind of people even exsisted. And most of all we have Chiwetel Ejioforas Solomon Northup, who is so great to watch in his performance, that I was crying and had goosebumps from the beginning to the end of the movie. I cannot tell you more about the performances, just one thing everyone has in common and this is the greatest performance of people, who are stars in Hollywood, and who have so many movies already done, but still outstanding performing in that historical drama.
The MUSIC was done by Hans Zimmer. I guess I don't have to say more details, the music goes into your mind, and plays with your understanding of logic.
The CAMERA is also incredible. There is e.g. an scenes, where a girl gets punished with a rob and you think we won't see what is happening, but we will.
The SETTING is the landscape and the beautiful aea of Texas in the early 80 of the 19 century, always great to see in movies.
There are no special EFFECTS in that movie.
CONCLUSION:
What I liked about the movie is everything and while watching is was caught by the storytelling and by the happenings. The movie is brutal, and it shows us all the sides of being in slavery. May it be the good and the bad ones, the positive and the negatives ones, the moments full of love and hate, and the moments full of emotions. There is nothing to criticize about 12 Years A Slave, and so there is no other rating rating than 10/10 of its genre as a historical drama, and overall, too.
Have fun with my absolute favorite slavery movie, and thanks for reading.
