Storyline

In the late 1940s, Prince Seretse Khama of Bechuanaland is studying law in Britain in preparation for his eventual ascension to the throne. There, the dashing prince falls in love with a white British clerk, Ruth Williams, and they plan to marry. While they suspect that his uncle, the Regent, would disapprove, nothing prepares them for the diplomatic firestorm and domestic political tumult their defiant love would spark. Now facing a citizenry leery of a white Briton as their Queen, the international opposition is even more unyielding from the British holding their land as a protectorate and fearful of South Africa's racist backlash to this affront to their apartheid domination. Against all odds, King Khama and Ruth must struggle to maintain their love and help their people in a land that would become the Republic of Botswana.

REVIEW

A United Kingdom's running time is about 111 minutes, the movie is PG-13 and was in cinemas in the beginning of the year and tells the true story of Prince Seretse Khama and Ruth, the first one is an African Royal Prince, who actually should rule his country Bechuanaland, and Ruth, who is a white woman from the UK's normal citizens. She is the daughter of a Trader, and nothing to offer to the world. However, they met, they fall in love with each other, and they want to marry. The only problem is, that in England the relationship is not seen in good eyes, but more not likely seen in his own country. How is that possible to rule a country and his own people, when you do not stay within that "family". This is all happening in the late 40s, where we had a lot of politcal problems, especially with relationships between black and white people. This is the main topic of the movie.

The CAST is mainly focusing on Sereste and Ruth. Sereste is played by David Oyelowo. He got a super emotional part in the movie, I think he is great, it is great to see, how much he is in love with Ruth. The way he talks to Ruth is so emotional and so true. Ruth Williams is played by Rosamund Pike, she has to deal with a lot of stuff, especially when they arrive in Botswana, like how dare you to come here, and how dare you to make a black guy, to bring a prince into that situation, that even his fellows will hate him. But these situation makes them stronger, it should be, but it is not shown. The policital background of the movie fails to reach the audience, and this is a bit sad.

The CAMERA is based on Drama, nothing special.

The SETTING is either in UK, or in Africa, the usual landscapes and town halls like what we are fimiliar with.

The MUSIC is too much silent, but okay.

No EFFECTS.

CONCLUSION:
What I like about the movie is the emotional part between Serest and Ruth. The fight for their love and the dealing with the troubles they are faced with is a good storytelling.

What I do not like about the movie is, that the political topic behind the story is undergoing, it could have been mentioned and pointed out more. So the movied cannot decide to be a drama or a love story. So it getting quickly boring to watch. So the 111 minutes can be felt.

So for its genre, mainly being a biopic I will give it 5/10 and overall 3/10. Thank you for reading, and have fun watching movies.

STORYLINE

Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat's preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities - against himself and his fellow slaves - Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.

REVIEW

The Birth of a Nation's running time is about 120, the movie is R rated for disturbing violent content and some brief nudity, and may come in cinemas on April 13, 2017, depending on the visitor numbers of Fast and Furious 8. However, it tells us the story of Nat Turner, based on his biography, who is slave on the ranch of Samuel Turner, 30 years before the civil war begins. When he was a child, he had to experience already, what it means to be a black man, and where is place is in the world's order of ranking people and compared to white guys. He has follow rules and orders, but he is an intelligent man, he is educated. So he became a preacher, and while his master becomes sick, he finds out that preaching by Nat is a job, which brings money. So Nat and his abilities are sold to other farms and there he should tell or better preach other slaves, that they always have to follow the lords and masters. So Nat comes around and also based on his memories of his childhood, he discovers more things in life, and he finds out that every man kind is the same in the eyes of God. This gives him the power to raise a uprising. This all is based on a true story, and so The Birth of a Nation is a movie, which is shocking because of the pictures shown in there (later on more about that) and because of the story behind the story within the storytelling and content. You will see scenes, which you will not easily forget, and so there room and space for discussions. I liked the movie, even though I am not a fan of the religious background, later on more about that, too, when I reach the conclusion.

But let us begin with the CAST. Nate Parker plays Nat Turner, powerful, real, and solid in his performance in my eyes. He is a person who is reaching out to God and his love, he has strong believes, and he performs well since he has a religious background and so a tough and hard role, because he has to convince of what he is doing and that it is correct, what he is doing. He is good in that. He is the man who brings out the idea to the world, that all the things happening to slaves are not correct. His own values of his life are not important for him, he reaches out to other people with full love and his heart. He is the main character, and in my eyes, there was not a movie before, where I felt what he felt, the physical and emotional disasters and drama, which is happening to him and to other is not easy to keep the eyes on the screen for all the time. It is hard to watch this movie, I say it again, but it is the truth.

Then we have Armie Hammer as  Samuel Turner, he lord of Nat. He is still one of the lords, who shows feelings and understanding for his slaves, but not at all. The message of the preachers do not convince so that he takes over the part of being a good and a bad guy at the time, because actually he wants the best for his slave, but this conflicts with the values and standards for white people.

The cast is so big, there are so many people in the movie, slaves and white people, the whole ensemble is epic in their performance.

The CAMERA is cold, ice cold. Shows everything, the movie is R rated. We see blood, we see scenes where tooth get hammered out of a slaves mouth with tools, we see how slaves are punished and how they loose their heads, not in a total screen, these things are captured in details. The camera itself is good, sometimes documentary, sometimes it leaves us alone to feel what is happening. Be prepared for that.

The SETTING is in the USA, landscapes all the time.

The MUSIC is loud, dramatic, and over the point. Sometimes the music is like a hero in the movie, which might be misunderstood by some you, because it is a contrast to the scenes and the drama. Sometimes there is also total silence.

The EFFECTS are great. Wounds are real looking.

CONCLUSION:
It is a true story what we can see.

What I like about the movie:
I like the look and the camera. The cast is awesome and the performance and emotional contact to the audience never gets lost. I like the brutal way of the storytelling, again be prepared. The message is great, how can people treat each other, suppress other, and the values effected by that. The speed of the movie is so cool, I did not feel the 2 hours of watching, I never got bored. It tells a famous story of the American history, which some people did not know before, but again it is a true story. It is a biopic.

What I did not like about the movie:
This is difficult, maybe the music and the religious background of the story which is understandable in some parts, but it is a real story, so the director has to tell us the story. This is just a very little minus point.

So if you like historical movies, based a real but American story, than watch it. I liked it, and there is almost nothing to say against this movie. It made me things about the status of people if you compare black and white people, which is still a highly discussed topic in some countries, especially in Africa.

So for its genre as a Drama, History and Biopic I will give The Birth of a Nation 9/10 points, overall 8/10 and so I wish you a lot of fun while, and I say thanks a lot for reading this review of
The Birth of a Nation, in cinemas on April 13, 2017.

The Zookeeper's Wife tells the account of keepers of the Warsaw Zoo, Antonina and Jan Zabinski, who helped save hundreds of people and animals during the German invasion.

Review:
The Zookeeper's Wife has a running time of 124 minutes and plays in Prague in short before the beginning of the second world war. The action takes place in a zoo, where a keeper is totally addicted to her animals, of whom she is taking care. But one day the war reaches also the town, and the zoo got bombarded. The zoo has to close and all the employees are taking over, most likely send to prison by the Germans. Being in hostage the keeper learns a lot about other people, religion, and values of appreciating her job and her passion. Not everyone can understand her love and passion for animals, and at the end it is a fight about what is right or wrong with having such a kind of love, what are values, and what if a the war affects in a way, that you cannot live with anymore, and puts yourself into a life crises. There are the topics, which can be transported into our present time today as well, because war in still out there and a lot of people have to give up on what they love because of violence. But let me tell you before, the movie is just average, it is okay, nothing special, has no new innovative things, and it is too long.

The CAST is set by the main character Jessica Chastain, who plays Antonina Zabinski, the wife, who has a special love for animals, who loves her job, and who cannot understand what is happening. She is like a classical mama, who also loves her family, and stands for values like freedom, love, peace, and happiness. Her performance is steady, not good, not bad, she is too plastic in some moments, and does not give us any surprises like changing her mind and character.

The second main character is Daniel Brühl, who is playing Lutz Heck, a German zoologist, animal researcher, animal book author and director of the large zoo in the German capital city, coming into the town of Prague to take over the zoo, and hired by the German's army. He is amazing to watch and each of his moves makes sense, and did not confuse me. In general it is always good to see Daniel Brühl, because he is a charming guy, plays in a really intelligent way, and also in The Zookeeper's Wife he is good, and gives us reasons why things happened.

The CAMERA is okay. During the action moments, when the bombs are falling a bit too hectically for my personal taste, calm and a bit too slow in bringing out the feelings and emotions of the main characters.

The MUSIC is okay as well, not too much, nothing special to mention.

The EFFECTS are also okay, sometimes I got reminded of Pearl Harbour, especially in the moments, when Prague was attacked.

CONCLUSION:
What I like about the movie:
It is a good and solid performance of the actors and main characters, it is a nice interpretation of what animals might have a meaning for us, and it is nice to see when a girl cares.

What I do not like about the movie:
It is too long, 40 minutes less would have been better, the action and story telling is too slow, and also some movements of the main characters are not understandable. Like when there is a feeding and Antonina is in the cage with wild animals lions, she is just sitting there, facing the people with her back, no interaction, and no talking to the people. Kind of boring actions and movements.

All in all it is a movie which is okay. The movie is based on a true story, and also based on the book with the name. So for it's genre as bio-pics, history, drama, and war movie I will give it 6/10, overall 5/10. Thanks for reading and have fun watching.

ANNABELLE 2 (2017) - TRAILER

She’s back! From New Line Cinema comes Annabelle: Creation, the followup to 2014’s hit horror film Annabelle, directed by David F. Sandberg. The first trailer was unveiled at Saturday’s WonderCon and has now made its way online.

TRAILER

Storyline

Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker's possessed creation, Annabelle.

Motion Picture Rating (MPAA)

Rated R for horror violence and terror.

During Warner Bros. panel at today’s event, Sandberg appeared for a brief discussion of his upcoming film. A fan of director James Wan — a “modern master of horror” — Sandberg described his excitement in stepping into the world Wan had conjured with The Conjuring. “That was the fun thing, because James set up this universe so great with the first Conjuring, which I was a huge fan of,” the director said. “It has this sort of classic horror movie feel—more old school. So this was my chance to do my version of an old school horror movie.”

In Annabelle: Creation, several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

The director also discussed the framing of his film as a prequel and origin story of Annabelle, a character previously introduced in the Conjuring films. “This is a prequel; hence, the Creation title. We actually see her being made, which was really fun for me,” he said of the possessed doll at the crux of the film. “I probably wouldn’t have been as interested in making it if it had been a straight continuation of the first movie.”

The horror film stars Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Philippa Coulthard, Grace Fulton, Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto.

Annabelle scared up nearly $257 million at the worldwide box office during its run in theaters, with the entire Conjuring franchise generating $895 million at the global box office.

The new film is once again being produced by Peter Safran and Wan, who previously partnered on The Conjuring movies. Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter and Hans Ritter executive produce. Sandberg directs from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote Annabelle.

Annabelle: Creation arrives in theaters on August 11, 2017. Watch the trailer above.

FENCES (2017) - Review

Denzel Washington in a theater recut, where he was also the main character, and hosting it. The movie was in cinemas at the beginning of February 2017, and so here is my review about

FENCES

Storyline

Troy Maxson makes his living as a sanitation worker in 1950s Pittsburgh. Maxson once dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but was deemed too old when the major leagues began admitting black athletes. Bitter over his missed opportunity, Troy creates further tension in his family when he squashes his son's chance to meet a college football recruiter.

REVIEW:

Fences's running time is about 139 minutes, its a Drama, is PG-13 rated, and was in cinemas February 2017. It tell us the story about Troy Maxson (Denzel Washington). He lives in Pitsburgh at the end of 50s, he was once a really good baseball player, but not succeeded in this, he is a trash collector at the streets, he works hard, every Friday he is going out with his friends, and he loves his family more than anything else. The family, who contains his wife, a sun, who is 34 years old, and Cory, who is the youngest, and has to go his way from College to University. Cory is Football talent, which Troy does not like because of his experiences. Troy himself is disappointed from his own life, and so there is a clue between his family and himself, hence he enjoys life, but also suffers. Awarded and based on a script made for the theater has Fences an absolutely in my eyes great score and it is worth enough to see, not just because of the cast.

The CAST is set with Denzel Washington as Troy Maxson and his wife Viola Davis as Rose Maxson. Troy is the leader of the family, he is disappointed from his own life, he is hard and the toughest guy in the family. H wants people to say thank you for his work, he does not like his sun in the sense, that it is a must. That is his behaviour, but he is too much like in his theater role.
Viola Davis, Rose in the movie, the suffers also, because she gave everything for the family, gave up her personality and her own life, just to be a good mama. In that moment, where there is a turning point in the movie, she changes, she is asking questions, why things are happening to her, and ask about her own life. She is insane in her acting in a good, and in the scene, where she has a 2 minutes monolog, the camera is fully pointing on her, which is pure energy and goosebumps to see. I love her performance.

Other characters are Cory Maxson played by Jovan Adepo and the uncle Gabriel played by Mykelti
Williamson. The movie is full of details about the family, which come up step by step, so that we never get bored while watching, and get more to know about each person, where he or she comes from, and why they behave as they do. But we will feel it that the movie is longer than 2 hours.

The CAMERMA is almost static, not fast, calm, and like the 50.

The SETTING is the house of Troy only.

There is almost no MUSIC. If, it supports the story.

No EFFECTS as well.

CONCLUSION:

What I like about the movie:
The story telling, the cast, and the camera, which faces the people a lot of focuses on the dialogues, and there are a lot of them in Fences, a title, which can be discussed, since racism is also a topic in the movie.

What I do not like about the movie:
It is a bit too long.

So if you are a fan of Dramas, especially when you are a fan of Denzel Washington, then watch it and enjoy a good and nice way of how to bring theater from the Broadway to Hollywood on the big screen.
For its genre as well as overall I give Fences 8/10 points, so enjoy it, thanks for reading, and see you soon.
