Kong Skull Island's running time are 118 minutes, and the movie is Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for brief strong language, and before I start to talk about the movie I want to say something in general:
I love creature-feature movies and to see King Kong back on the screen is awesome, the movie is dark, it is an evil creature movie literally and the action and effects done by LucasFilms is insane, fast, hard, brutal, and also full of evil methods, so that the movie itself turns into a really hard, almost comparable to Apocalypse Now, which is a huge compliment for the movie. But let's start with the storyline first.
Storyline
It's 1971, a team of explorers with a company of soldiers are following
myth ,legend in the Pacific amindst runors of an island where creatures
both prehistoric and monstrous are supposed to live. Soon they come
across Skull Island , the very island of lore and legend. The creatures
they soon come across make the soldiers and explorers running for their
very lives. Soon Kong shows up to let all know that He is King of Skull
Island and top of the food chain. Will they survive to tell their story?
Will beauty win the heart of the beast?
About the characters I don't want to talk about them because in kong Skull Island it is pretty quickly clear that those characters, who are taking part in that expedition, have a reason to go to the Island, and to talk about the characters here would be too much spoiling, and I don't want you to steel the fun and motivation to watch the movies.
For me the best roles were done by John Godman, who showed already in 10 Cloverfield Line, that he is epic artist and performer, and also in Boston, where he had to play the main character. In Kong Skull Island, he is really thin, compared to his latest movies, and Bill Randa played by John Godman is the initializator of the expedition.
Brie Larson, freshly crowned Oscar's Academy Award winner is again taking over the part of the female, acting and interacting with Kong, but compared to the Kong version of Peter Jackson in 2007, she is rather an off character.
Watch out for Hank Marlow aka John Reily, he is living on the Island already for a longer, why that, you have to watch, but he is the guy connecting fun, and sarcasm in on person.
Let's talk about the camera which is awesome and epic: 70s style, slow motions, super slomos, sunset feelings and screenings, and the handling, motion, and action of the camera is really really good. I had goosebumps non stop while watching the movie, absolutely great job again by Larry Fong, you may know him having watched Batman V Superman or 300 - Rise of the Empire.
What makes this movie so special: the effects.
The sound of the movie is insane, and my advice to you is: watch it in Dolby Atmo. The helicopter sounds, the bombs, Kongs voice and shouts and the deep and dark voice of John Godman is incredible in the Dolby Atmo version.
What I like about the movie:
- 70s style
- Kong (always a pleasure to see on the big screen)
- effects
- Actors
- Locations (Vietnam, Hawaii, Gold Coast of Queensland, and Moretone Bay)
What I don't like about the movie:
- 2nd half has a slight turn to become a trash creature feature movie because of the actings and rolling of the characters
- too many impressed screens by the actors, when they see Kong (6 times, and it is getting boring when you always see the same impressed and scared faces of the actors when Kong appears)
All in all the movie is a must watch, go to the cinema, again with Dolby Atmo Sound system (highly recommanded), by Popcorn and chips and enjoy 120 minutes of pure action and insanity by Kong.
This is a popcorn, compared to all the others the movie might disappear again in 4 or 5 weeks, but for fans of Kong and for creature feature movie it is a must, really. The 120 minutes are definately not boring at all, the motion and action is so fast, that you don't have the feeling to watch a two hours movie, great cast and all in all pure fun.
I am impressed, watch it, enjoy the stay in the cinema!
8.5 out of 10 points for this epic Kong Skull Island Epos by Mr. Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
